Who is tabLION?
TabLION recognizes that the Triune God is, by nature, communal. As such, it is imperative for us to hash out our faith with a community of believers (and non-believers) who are all diversely made in the image of God. We call these groups, Table Unions.
We believe that a more complete and robust understanding of the gospel is not possible without diverse perspectives. If all people are an image of God, how could we possibly come to know who God is without learning from the varied and diverse body of His creation that extends far beyond the reaches of Western Christianity?
What truly is the gospel in its fullness? What part of the gospel are we missing because we are privy to only one cultural lens? What more of the gospel can we glean as a united yet diverse Body of Christ that we, on our own, could not come to know? We cannot begin to know the glory of the true gospel until we glean from the beautifully varied people of God, to and from the ends of the earth.
We are keenly aware that we can all be tempted by heretical tangents and broken or incomplete theology as individuals, but we can learn from the knowledge and wisdom of others by engaging in deeper thought and consideration to the things we believe. We can sharpen one another as it says in Proverbs 27:17.
We invite you to join a Table Union. There is a seat for you at the table, where you can fellowship in unity and union with brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus.
How does tabLION work?
TabLION is an opportunity for the opening of eyes (Luke 24:45) and ears (Matthew 13:9-16); it is the falling of scales (Acts 9:18) and the focusing of trees (Mark 8:22-25). For this to happen in a healthy and productive way, we follow this formula:
Ld + Li = Lt
It is in the Laying down and Leaning in that leads to Learning truth. The posture for all members of tabLION Table Unions is this:
Ld = Lay down personal perceptions, prejudices, and preconceived notions, then…
Li = Lean in to hear, taste and see what others have to offer, in order to…
Lt = Learn Truth; to grow and glean the richness of learning a closer version of truth, God’s truth, than we came with.
As such, we encourage participants to create their own unique Table Unions that seek diversity; varied voices, perspectives and backgrounds better reflect the true God who is multifaceted yet united in His Triune nature. We, too, seek to be diverse but united, as one Body of Christ. If you need help in forming Kingdom-minded Table Unions, we are happy to assist you!
